Cyrus Kotenai was raised in Houston, Texas, and began his academic journey at the University of Houston, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center. During law school he honed his skills through mock trial competitions and received the CALI Award for excellence in legal research and writing.

Before opening Betancourt Kotenai PLLC, Cyrus worked at three Fortune 50 oil and gas companies, where he negotiated multi-million-dollar contracts. He developed his litigation skills as a summer associate at Foley & Lardner and with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, where he assisted in the criminal prosecution of domestic violence and child sex abuse cases. He also worked in the labor and employment division at Lone Star College, practiced family law at other firms in the Tri-Cities, and managed a branch office in Spokane.

Cyrus is an active member of the Washington State Bar Association and its Family Law Section, the Benton-Franklin Counties Bar Association, and the Spokane Bar Association.

Outside the practice, Cyrus enjoys hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, snowboarding, skydiving, and traveling.
