Angel Betancourt was raised in Yakima, Washington. In 2005, he joined the United States Air Force as a Tactical Air Control Party specialist, deploying to Iraq in 2007. His training included Army Airborne School and USAF Survival School.

After the service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice, and then his law degree from the University of Idaho.

His practice covers criminal defense, family law, and civil protection orders. In criminal matters, he starts from one premise: a charge is an accusation, not a conviction, and the State has to prove it. He does not take the prosecutor’s word for anything. He tests the stop, the search, the statements, and the witnesses, and he makes the government carry its burden in every hearing. He believes in second chances, and he fights for them. In family matters, the approach is different but the commitment is not: keep families whole where it can be done, and where it cannot, protect a parent’s place in their children’s lives with everything the law allows.
